At AMETEK STC, one of the main causes that we support, both financially through the AMETEK Foundation and through volunteer work by our employees, is talent development and hereunder also diversity and inclusion.
Scholarships
For many years, we have supported talented children and young adults through our scholarship program. Focusing our support locally, we offer scholarships in the following areas:
- Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), Pennsylvania: Four scholarships (Abington Campus, Brandywine Campus and University Park Campus). Scholarships for two undergraduate-level Engineering students, two to recognize outstanding student leaders in either Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering, and one for the Multicultural Engineering Program experience.
- California Polytechnical State University, San Luis Obispo, California: A scholarship to sponsor a Student Technician at the Poly Hangar and Mustang ’60 Student Machine Shops, where approximately 5,500 students use the lab facilities for hands-on fabrication experience.
- Hatboro-Horsham Educational Foundation, Horsham, Pennsylvania: Financial support for their Girl’s STEAM speakers program. The goal of the Girl’s STEAM program is to
encourage women to pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Besides supporting the program financially, AMETEK employee volunteers also
present inspirational STEAM talks where they share the story of their own career path.
Engineer For A Day
At our Center of Excellence based in Largo, Florida, we host various initiatives to support children and young adults interested in engineering. We annually host a day of “shadowing” where a high school student from Largo High School spends the day with one of our experienced engineers, helping them gain a better understanding of what their job entails.
Promoting Childhood Reading Literacy
Since 2002, the AMETEK Foundation has partnered with the American Reading Company to improve literacy rates among children in under-served communities across the United States. The partnership has provided more than 120,000 books to students in kindergarten through third grade. In addition, AMETEK colleagues support these efforts by reading to students and working with teachers to promote American Reading Company’s 100-book challenge.
Philadelphia Eagles Eye Mobile
We believe in diversity and that talent comes from many places. To that end, we actively support the education of children and young adults (see the page Talent Development, Diversity & Inclusion for more information). For some children, an obstacle to reading can be as simple as the need for a pair of glasses. As some families are unable to afford glasses, we support Vision To Learn’s partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles Eye Mobile. The Eye Mobile provides free eye exams and glasses to under-served students in the Philadelphia region, home of our Horsham Center of Excellence and AMETEK Inc. Corporate Headquarters.
